Welcome to the Wild Wild West. This is the most wonderfully themed hotel, that really makes you feel like you have travelled back in time. You will be sorry that you forgot to pack your spurs and cowboy boots! Any budding cowboy or cowgirl will be taken aback by the detail of this theming. Then you add in Woody, Jessie and Bullseye this is a fantastic option which is similarly priced to the Santa Fe.
This resort is within 20-25 minutes walking distance to the parks. There is also a regular shuttle bus that will take you from just outside reception over to the parks, great for a rainy day. Just make sure you leave time to explore this resort, as there are plenty of selfie opportunities. If you haven’t done so already, this is the time to sign up to Instagram!
This is a fun resort with unique theming and is considered to be a Value resort due to its distance away from the parks. The rooms have been redecorated recently which means it is often priced higher than Santa Fe. The theming here may be worth the extra money but if you choose the Santa Fe, you can still walk across the bridge and explore this wonderfully themed resort.
Rooms come with either 2 double beds or a double with a pull out bed. Make sure you let reception know your preference during check in. There are several different room types available, so depending on your circumstances you may wish to upgrade to a different room. All rooms are the same, so the room type determines whereabouts in the resort your room will be. If you choose a Texas room, Disney will assign you a room for you anywhere on the resort.
Texas Room – These rooms consist of 2 double beds or a double bed with a pull out bed (as seen above) and typically sleep 4 people. Rooms are a good size with fun theming based on the Disney Pixar film Toy Story 2. Kids will love the cowboy boot lamp and the colourful border going around the room. This has English plug sockets and USB ports, which is really useful especially if you forget your travel adaptors. Standard rooms all feature
- Free high chair and baby cot ( upon request at the hotel)
- Disney and International TV Channels
- Hair dryer
- Ceiling Fan
- Free Wifi access
- Safety deposit box
Dakota Room – This is the same as a Texas room, located next to the reception. This means you are close to the restaurant and most importantly for most, close to the shuttle bus stop. If this appeals to you, a small upgrade charge will allow you to secure one of these rooms.
Wyoming Room – Again this is the same as a Texas room but situated near the river. Being out of the way means these are often quieter rooms. However, the main selling point is that you are the closest walking distance to the parks, as the pathway to the parks runs along the river.
The onsite restaurant is called the Chuck Wagon. It is open for breakfast and dinner. Reservations are recommended, given the size of the resort and the relatively small size of the restaurant, you will often need a reservation to eat here. The theme is a market in a typical town in the Wild West, with different areas set aside for different types of food. The theming in here is so good, you will have to remember to eat and not just stare at the decor!
The morning breakfast is continental and is all you can eat. This is a standard breakfast, with good but rarely memorable food. You will enjoy the self serve coffee machines, in particular, the hot chocolate, a Disney fan favorite. Croissants, cold meats, cheese and cereals are the typical offerings here.
The evening is an all you can eat buffet. There is a wide range of food available here with the beef stew being a personal favorite. There is a section with foods aimed at kids (but also tempts many adults) often serving chips, nuggets and pizza. This is available on the Standard Meal Plan and could be a good option to finish your day after all the walking through the parks.
It wouldn’t be a true western experience if you didn’t have a saloon to grab a drink in. Unlike the movies, there are no fist fights but a wide selection of drinks to help you relax in the evening. Again, even if you don’t fancy a drink you may pop in just to take a few photos and end up ordering a nice cold tall beer!
Alternatively, a Starbucks has recently opened up on site. An all you can eat buffet is often too much for some people so this can be a welcome alternative.
